Speaking of flat, hot and boring, if you add windy, you have Kansas. At least in Wyoming, people have enough sense to pack up and move out of the state. In Kansas, I don’t think the people understand that logic. There’s nothing in Kansas. It’s flat, it’s ungodly hot, and there’s absolutely nothing to do. The one good thing about Kansas, however, is that it has the nicest people in the world. When I was stuck in the middle of nowhere, with an unfixable flat tire, and an impending thunderstorm approaching, it was the kindness of strangers that saved me and my trip.

F
inally, I was out of the dry, hot plains. Unfortunately, I was greeted with the humid and impossibly steep hills of the Ozark Mountains. If that wasn’t enough, I had to contend with a broken chain, an accident, and truck drivers who run bikers off the road for sport. Besides the truck drivers however, the people in Missouri rival the folks in Kansas for friendliness and hospitality. And when I found myself in a campground filled with 4,000 cowboys, I discovered they know how to have a rootin’ tootin’ good time as well.
