Today was a workday. I woke up at 5:00am to the sound of birds, dogs and cows. The birds were so loud it was if I was in the jungle. When I looked out the window, I realized I was in the jungle.
Adam, Ovick, Dan and I had breakfast at 8:30. There is a balcony off the 4th floor that has a nice little table. The building servants made us pizzas and coffee. It was a very nice breakfast. At 9:30, there was a company meeting. Ovick spoke to the group and introduced Adam and me to them. I then presented a brief history and overview of DigitalThink. Nobody said a word the entire time. I guess that is part of their culture. Dan said he went to a rock concert and the entire stadium was completely quiet. Either the entire country is very shy or very polite. After the meeting, I spent the rest of the morning speaking with R.S. and Kakoli. Both of them are very impressive. R.S. is clearly the guy who runs the production and Kakoli is the person who manages the people and makes everything run smoothly. In the afternoon, I met with the leads and supervisors. They were not as strong, but had potential. The Project Manager, Amit, was the strongest of the bunch. I would put him on par with R.S. and Kakoli. After our meetings, Anjan took me to a store to buy clothes. It was the nicest store in Salt Lake (the suburb TCT is in). It actually had some very nice quality clothes. I was struck by the customer service. As soon as we walked in, there were four store clerks who followed me around everywhere I went. Whenever I wanted to look at something, they took it off the racks and held it up to me. When I decided I wanted to buy it, they didn't let me carry it, instead they brought it up to the counter. Another tradition I would like to bring back to the states. I ended up buying two shirts, a T-shirt, socks, underwear and shoes for about $45. For dinner, we went back to the same building as the store to a very nice restaurant. Again, I have no idea what I ate, but it was good. |
